Down-to-Read with Daniela: Paul has a Summer Job by Michel Rabagliati

Age Group:
Young Adult

Genre:
Canadian, Realistic Fiction, Coming-of-age, Graphic Novel, Humourous

Summary:
Paul’s just not cut out for high school. When he finally gets to work on a project he’s passionate about, Paul’s excited to start. But when his grades don’t match up, the principal boots him off the project. Paul’s so fed up he decides to leave school to try out life in the real world. Day after day passes by working at a factory and Paul feels his despair growing. When he’s offered a job as a counselor at a summer camp, Paul jumps at the opportunity. But is he ready to take on the challenge of a band of underprivileged, misbehaving children?

My Thoughts:
An interesting and well put together story about taking responsibility and finding one’s inner strength. Set in Quebec during the 1970s, the story also has an interesting historical element.
