I Shall Not Hate: a gaza’s doctor’s journey

You may have heard the interview on CBC with Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, a Palestinian doctor who suffered family tragedy while living in Palestine.  This is the biography of  a bright Palestinian man who rose from poverty and struggle, ultimately receiving scholarships and grants to become a well respected doctor in Israel and the rest of the world.  He gives the reader an insight into the daily tensions between the Israelis and Palestinians, living conditions in Palestine,  issues of governance, land ownership and regional peace.

Woodbridge Book Club – Major Pettigrew’s last stand

The Woodbridge Book club read this book at our last meeting in January and the group thoroughly enjoyed this novel by Helen Simonson.  This is a beautiful love story about two older people from different cultures, set in small town England, who slowly grow interested and affectionate towards each other.  The author touches on various themes such as inheritances, small town bigotry as well as family relationships.

The group recommends this novel by Helen Simonson.

Woodbridge Library Midweek Matinee

Join us at the Woodbridge Library for a Matinee every two weeks.  We have a wide collection of classical movies featuring actors such as  Clark Gable,  Marlon Brando, Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn.  For upcoming Black History Month, we start off  the celebrations with The Help (February 1) starring Emma Stone, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer.  This is based on the book written by Kathryn Stockett who details the African American maid experience in the deep south.  This is truly an historical story with many hilarious moments !

For the rest of the month of February, we show That Hamilton Woman (February 15)  and A Place in the Sun (February 29).

Come along  for an afternoon of fun at the movies.  We even have popcorn and it is all free!
