Do you love playing video games? Have you ever wondered how they are made? Do you want to learn how to create your own games using code? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you are invited to join our game jam event!

This event is aimed at elementary school aged children in grades 2-8 and is meant to celebrate the joy that can be found in coding and creating something with your own or with a team of up to 3 people.

What is a game jam?

A game jam is an event where participants try to make a video game in a short amount of time. You can work alone or in a team, and you can use any tools or software you like (as long as the game can be played in a web browser online, please see our rules and regulations for more info). The only rule is that you have to follow a theme, which will be announced at the start of the event on March 1st.

Why should you join a game jam?

Game jams are a great way to learn about coding. Coding is not only useful for making games, but also for many other careers and hobbies in the digital world. By learning to code, you can develop skills such as creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication.

Game jams are also a lot of fun! You can express your imagination, experiment with new ideas, and challenge yourself to make something awesome. You can also meet other people who share your passion for games, and play their creations.

Where do I start?

  1. Check out the GameJam landing page for the rules and regulations and some helpful tips
  2. For some guidance, check out the GameJam booklist
  3. Once the topic is announced, start planning out your game!
  4. Not sure what coding language to use? Check out Scratch, Construct 3, or Twine
  5. Play some games to get some inspiration!

Who will be judging the submissions?
