Set in the year 1575 , The Conte di Padovani’s wife, Lucia, is  almost close to death during childbirth.  Hannah Levi, a skilled midwife is summoned to the Conte’s residence to help with the birth.  However, Hannah accompanying the Conte to his palazzo  goes against her Rabbi’s wishes and Papal edict.  Jews were forbidden to treat Christian patients ! Countless, unfortunate charges can be laid against her.  She decides that this high-risk delivery is worth it and strikes a bargain !!
