The library is really shaping up! As of this week, spray fireproofing has commenced, exterior sheathing installation has started at the north elevation, roofing installation is underway, and site work is complete in preparation for paving in the reading garden.

A New Library is Coming to Vellore Village!

Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) is currently planning a new library location in the Vellore Village Community Centre.  The new library will be attached to the existing community centre  and will be approximately 8,000sq ft. in size. The library is projected to open in the summer of 2017.

In an effort to solicit feedback from the community to help with the design process, VPL held several focus groups with the community and children from local schools. Highlights and desired elements for the new library mentioned by the focus group participants included:

  • Abundance of natural light
  • Lots of comfortable seating
  • Incorporate elements of nature
  • A library that is bright, colourful and unique
  • Designated areas for children, teens and adults
  • Sufficient study space
  • Art wall/Display area
  • Café/refreshment/snack area
  • Collections in various formats and languages
  • Programming for all age groups
  • Volunteer opportunities for teens and adults

Unique ideas suggested by local students included:

  • Movie theatre
  • Skating rink/slides/indoor park
  • A Helping Hand to get the books you want off of the shelf
  • A magic book that comes alive when you open it
  • Library pet

Civic Centre Resource Library – June 5

Things are moving very quickly at the Civic Centre Resource Library. As of this week the masonry walls are complete at both levels. Walls have been built on the ground floor office area. Duct work and electrical wires continue to be installed.

Kleinburg Library Re-Opening Celebration

Kleinburg Library celebrated its re-opening last Friday. Over 40 Grade One students from the Kleinburg Public School came to the celebration to enjoy a special storytime with their favourite librarian Sarah. The Mayor, Members of Council, Library Board members, the new City Manager and the architect also attended the event. Check out the photos below that captured some of the great moments of the day.

Woodbridge Library Closed for Renovations May 26 – 29

Woodbridge Library will be closed for renovation starting on Tuesday, May 26 and will re-open on Saturday, May 30 at 10 a.m. During this time, customers may return library materials at any location of Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) or renew them online at www.vaughanpl.info. Customers may deactivate holds online or pick them up at Pierre Berton Resource Library.  For more assistance deactivating holds, please ask a staff at the Service Desk.  We apologize for any inconveniences.

Kleinburg Library Invites You to Its Re-Opening Celebration

Kleinburg Library invites you to its Re-opening Celebration on May 29, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A special children’s storytime will be held at 11 a.m. followed by official remarks by the Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua P.C., Mayor of Vaughan.  Everyone is welcome to discover the newly renovated library and enjoy light refreshments. See you there!

Civic Centre Resource Library – May 8

Lots has happened at the Civic Centre Resource Library this week. The slab pour took place on the second level. Scaffolding and railings are secured in place. Metal decking has been completed over both levels. Metal stair construction has commenced, stair B and C are being fastened in place. Mechanical and electrical rough-in and stub ups are ongoing and they will be progressing through to the second floor in the next two weeks. Mechanical is continuing to install hangers for duct installation.

Trimmer angle has progressed around the second floor. Scaffolding is also in place for work on the second floor.

Stair C is in place adjacent to the washroom and maker space room.

Metal decking over is approximately 95% complete over both levels. Connections and fastening of the decking is not complete yet. Mechanical and electrical have resumed rough-in and stub ups at grade. Workers will be progressing through to the second floor in the next few weeks. Mechanical is continuing to install hangers for duct installation. Masonry work has commenced on site. The elevator shaft and stair B has been constructed.
