Passport to Vaughan: Learning Pictograph Chinese Characters
  • Learn to write simple pictograph Chinese characters and use them to enjoy fun activities like making a decorated paper fan and creating wishing tree tags.

    All are welcome. Familiarity with the Chinese language is not required. This event/program is a part of the Passport to Vaughan series and also is collaboration with the Chinese Language Exhibit at Pleasant Ridge Library in November.

    Learning basic Chinese pictographs characters:
    o Demo to write basic or simple Pictographs characters with their pronunciation
    o practice with Chinese character writing paper template

    Two family activities:
    o Making Chinese fan with written poem or characters. Family members will have opportunities to make a decorated paper fan. When they finish they can write a poem in Chinese or English.
    o Making wishing tree tag. Family members will create their wishing tree tags and using the Chinese characters learned and compose a special message.
