Volunteer Opportunities

Vaughan Public Libraries occasionally offers volunteer opportunities to those looking to help others in their community. Volunteers must have completed grade 8 and be a minimum of 14 years of age to apply. Volunteers must successfully complete an interview. Any volunteer that is 18 years of age or older is required to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).

Chess Club Volunteer Opportunity

Chess Club returns at VMC (Thursday evenings), Maple (Thursday evenings), and Vellore Village (Saturday afternoons) branches. Chess Club volunteers work with participating children to instruct in playing chess or improving their game.

Our Chess Club volunteers are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Chess. This program runs in association with local non-profit Chess in the Library and volunteers apply through them. Select "New Volunteers Form" at the link if you have never volunteered with Chess in the Library before: Apply for Chess Club on external site. Volunteers must have completed Grade 8 and be 14+. Adult volunteers are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Drum Circle Volunteer

Volunteers will help the staff facilitator with in-branch programs and/or outreach sessions

Pop-Up Volunteer

Under the direction of a designated supervisor, the prospective volunteer will help on an as-needed basis with specific programs and initiatives at VPL, such as creating program materials and helping to facilitate programs. Volunteer hours will be based on VPL’s preparation needs for specific programs and services with 10 hours offered per quarter/session. Volunteers will be informed at least two weeks in advance by email about upcoming opportunities. Adult volunteers are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Help struggling readers practice reading, play games, and have fun. Volunteers must have completed Grade 8 and be 14+. Adult volunteers are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Tech Coaches - Coding Buddies/Robotics Club

Earn volunteer hours by sharing your tech skills with the community. Assist in a variety of programs for all ages, everything from computer basics to coding and STEAM (coding/engineering experience is required i.e. Scratch, VEX IQ, etc.). Volunteers must have completed Grade 8 and be 14+. Current volunteer opportunities are in-person.
